Adding UAC to IE's Trusted Sites
Internet Explorer (IE) was among the many programs that were tightened for security with the release of Windows XP SP2. In particular, pages using JavaScript are deemed "active content" (regardless of whether the page resides on a server or on your computer) and are blocked from running. IE displays a message bar like the one below when it blocks active content:
![]()
Pages blocked with this message can be enabled by clicking on the message bar, selecting "Allow Blocked Content", then clicking "OK" when a second warning box is displayed. This allows the blocked page to run in the same window; if you close the window and then open the page in a new one you'll have to perform these steps again.
Some UAC web pages use JavaScript to perform their functions, and as a result may be blocked when viewed with IE. One way to remove this restriction permanently is to add UAC's web site to the list of trusted sites in IE.
Select Tools|Internet Options, then click the Security tab. Click the Trusted Sites icon:

Clicking the Sites button displays the Trusted sites box. Type "http://uac.utoledo.edu" in the box labeled "Add this Web site to the zone:":

Click Add to place the the UAC web site address into the Web sites box. Click OK, then OK a second time to return to IE.
Alternatively, you can enable JavaScript in IE to accomplish this (although the above method is more secure). Also, if you use an alternative browser that does not use "trusted sites", such as Firefox, you can enable JavaScript. In this case, follow the directions below.
- In IE, select Tools|Internet Options, then click the Security tab. Now click the Custom Level button and
scroll down to "Scripting". Check "Enable" under "Active Scripting", then OK twice and confirm your change.

- In Firefox, select Tools|Options, the click the Content icon. Check "Enable JavaScript", then click OK.
