Charrette Design Presentations
The Walk Westgate Community Design Charrette was a success! We had good attendance and participation at all of the public meetings, input sessions, and design sessions.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE DESIGN IDEAS THAT CAME OUT OF THE CHARRETTE AND THE SUBSEQUENT IDEAS THAT WILL EMERGE AS THE PROCESS CONTINUES ARE JUST THAT...IDEAS. IDEAS THAT ILLUSTRATE THE POTENTIAL FOR AN AREA THAT IS OF A GREAT IMPORTANCE AND VALUE TO ITS NEIGHBORS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS. THE ONLY WAY ANY COMBINATION OF THESE IDEAS CAN EVER BE IMPLEMENTED IS WITH THE FULL SUPPORT OF ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS...THE MOST IMPORTANT BEING THE PROPERTY OWNERS.
Since the Charrette, University of Michigan planning and architecture students have continued to research the area and are refining some of the Charrette concepts into more detailed plans or visions.
The next step will be a public presentation of those visions on December 10, 2000. (See calendar for details) It important to note that we are at the very beginning of a process that is intended to "reveal opportunities" that could make the Westgate commercial and residential area even better that it is. Any plans or visions that come out of the process will, hopefully, seed further discussion and planning by the area's stakeholders and result in at least--a recognition of the area's potential and at best, improvements and investments that enhance the viability, utility, and aesthetics of the area.
The visioning or planning process that began with the Charrette will continue even after December 10th and there will be numerous ongoing opportunities for input and active participation.
Please take this opportunity to add your input on the ideas that came out of the Charrette. Please look at the Design Team Presentations at the bottom of this page or go to the actual presentations (links below). Then e-mail your comments to uac@pop3.utoledo.edu.
The full presentations of Design Team 1, Design Team 2, and Design Team 3 from the Walk Westgate charrette (September 21-24, 2000) are now available for your review and input.
