Jack Ford

The Jack Ford Urban Affairs Center  is an applied research unit of The University of Toledo with the mission to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life of Toledo and its metropolitan region. By identifying challenges and facilitating solutions in the areas of neighborhood, urban, and regional development.

Established by The University of Toledo Board of Trustees in October 1980, the Center puts to work the acadmic expertise of faculty to contribute new perspectives and solutions to community challenges.  

After the passing of Jack Ford in 2015, the Center was renamed the Jack Ford Urban Affairs Center in memory of the former State Representative, Toledo Mayor and UToledo adjunct professor. Ford was a double alumnus who earned a master's degree in public administration and juris doctor for The University of Toledo.

The Center offers access to diverse faculty experts to support public and private organizations with analysis, evaluation and planning services, including:

Benefit Cost Analysis

Determine the future risk reduction benefits of a hazard mitigation project and compare those benefits to its costs.

Demographic Analysis

Community Benefits Planning

Guidance on creating a data-informed, stakeholder engaged, needs assessed, access to economic and social opportunity community benefits plan.

Economic Impact Analysis

Examine the effect of an event on the economy for a specific area.

Policy Analysis

Examine and evaluate the available options to implement the goals of laws and elected officials.

Program Evaluation

Systematically collect, analyze, and use information to answer questions about projects, policies and programs, particularly about their effectiveness and efficiency.

Spatial and Data Analysis

Extract new information about a set of geographic features to perform routine examination, assessment, evaluation, analysis or modeling of data in a geographic area.

Strategic Planning

Collaborative development of a vision, goals, and specific actions to help move a community or organization to achieve those goals.
