Viewing Web-Based PowerPoint Presentations
(To print these directions now, use your browser's Print command.)
Web-based PowerPoint presentations (PPT extension) are intended to be browser-independent by Microsoft, but Internet Explorer tends to render them better and will display and use the presentation's control buttons more reliably that other browsers.
PowerPoint shows (PPS extention) are intended to be self-starting and should run automatically, either within the IE browser when selected, or after downloading when using other browsers. If a PPS file does not automatically start, simply locate it in your "downloads" area and run it from there.
Slides, and the graphics or pictures within the slides, may take some time to load into your browser. The time required for loading will vary depending on (among other things) your computer's speed, the speed of your network connection, the load on our server, and the version of your web browser. All PowerPoint presentations on our web server saved in HTML format are set to accommodate as many browser versions as possible; if you use at least Internet Explorer version 4, Netscape version 4, or a browser based on Mozilla, you should be able to view these presentations.
When a presentation begins, it will display a framed page in a new browser window. The presentations will offer a list of slides by slide title in the left frame, and the contents of the current slide in the right frame.
You can move from one slide to another by clicking on the slide's title in the list of slides at the left of the new window, or by using the "<" and ">" controls at the bottom of the new window.
Depending on the presentation, you may also see either a single "Expand/Collapse" icon below the list of slides in Internet Explorer, or individual "Expand" and "Collapse" icons below the slide list in other browsers. These can be used to preview the text of slides in the list (if the authors included same) before selecting a slide for viewing.
To remove the list of slides on the left, click the "Outline" button in the lower left of the presentation's window. You can still the "<" and ">" to move through the slides as described above. Clicking the "Outline" button again re-displays the slide list.
To end the presentation and return to this window, close the presentation's browser window by clicking the close box in the upper right corner of the window or by selecting "File" and then "Close" from the window's menu bar.
